$10 bar top

We finally got fed up enough with using a 2x4 as a 'table' in the kitchen that we made a temporary bar top. We will eventually pull together some kind of beautiful permanent solution...but for now this works. And it only cost $10!

We bought a cheap piece of wood that is rough but has the same basic character our dining table has. Then we stained it with our floor stain so it's nice and dark.

Much better. Now that the kids have a bit wider table, they only spill every other meal. (I wish I were kidding!)

I like the wood top, but I'm torn between wanting to get a permanent (and wider) wood top or going with a stainless steel top. What do you think? Wood or stainless?
