Cue the musical

Profound isn't it? :) If you haven't seen State Fair...go rent it now. It's such a fun classic and cheesy musical about the Iowa State Fair.
We went to the Fair last week with the kids and had a fun time. Here are some highlights.

This is the parade to open the Fair. Elliott sat down and said 'this is boring.' It kind of was. It was the slowest moving parade I've ever been too. We were there for 2 hours and then left...and the parade was still slowing moving along. Crazy! But there were glimmers of fun too.

 At the Fair we went to an area called "Little Hands on the Farm." It was such a FANTASTIC activity for kids. First they put on an apron and picked up baskets. They planted seeds, picked vegetables and fruits...

 ...they gathered eggs...

 ...and then they traded in soybeans to make fuel to run their tractors. :) Isa was delighted to be just tall enough (two chickens tall to be exact) to ride her own tractor.

They milked a fake cow and then ended up selling their bounty for some play money that they could use in a 'grocery store' to buy a popsicle or treat.

Emma got a bit tired out by walking around but Henry wasn't tired in the least. He wanted to break out of that stroller SO badly!

We didn't go crazy with 'Fair food' this year...but we tried a foot long corn dog. It was HUGE and fed all of us! Right next to our corn dog stand was the Deep Fried Butter and Deep Fried Snickers bars. Would you ever eat one of those? The line (as you can see in the picture) was really long and I think everyone who got their artery-clogging-craziness took their picture with it. I haven't heard any reviews though.

The kids were mad at us for not letting them go on any rides this year. But at $3 each for a short ride it didn't seem worth it! Maybe next year...
